Growing up the eldest son of a prominent politician, Melbourne-based Nick Bracks was already accustomed to the spotlight when he was offered a contract with American Crew in 2009. His profile grew quickly and before long, Nick branched out from modelling to become a prime time television favourite.
It was during his acclaimed appearance on Channel Seven’s Dancing with the Stars (according to Nick the most nerve wracking experience of his life) that he found a way to advocate for the cause closest to his heart: mental health awareness.
Drawing from personal experience with depression and anxiety, Nick has gone on to work with organisations such as Headspace, Beyond Blue, En Masse and Movember, speaking to audiences that range from intimate school and youth groups to large media events and corporate gatherings of 1,500+.
Since completing his university degree in 2010, and in addition to his advocacy efforts, Nick has pursued various entrepreneurial projects. His business achievements include the launch of his eponymous men’s underwear label, underBRACKS, a successful restaurant venture and the co-founding of superfood supplement, Activated Nutrients.
Between business interests, Nick continues to appear across a broad array of media channels in the entertainment industry while continuing to raise awareness for mental health issues. His passion and commitment to the cause has seen him fast become the ‘go to’ commentator in this field. This is reflected in his impressive social media following (50,000 + across Facebook, Instagram and Twitter).
At age 28, Nick is loving the new direction his life has taken through advocating for mental health awareness while building on his successful business and entertainment projects. He hopes that now, with a little luck, he’ll never have to dance in front of two million viewers again!
I have co-founded various businesses, from clothing to nutritional supplements to a restaurant/café venture.
The main theme that usually comes up is ‘maintaining a healthy balance’ in day-to-day life. I am a big promoter of exercise and meditation, and like to share my insights as often as possible.
Working on PR initiatives with Beyond Blue, Headspace and Movember and seeing the impact this has on people’s lives.
I am passionate about health and fitness and promoting this to as many people as possible. I am also passionate about advocating mental health awareness.
I have been on a couple of reality shows….
I feel that I have a strong personal story to share, along with some insights that I have picked up along the way and want to use this to help as many people as possible.
Nick is a very honest and engaging speaker, and his courageous speech was well received by our Year 10-12 students.
“Nick has been an awesome ambassador for Movember this year. He’s shared his experience with mental health challenges with our community as a guest speaker, in media and even as part of staff training. His willingness to help shine a light on men’s mental health issues is a credit to him. It’s personal stories like Nick’s that help bring to life the causes Movember supports and we thank him for his generous support.”
“Having collaborated with Nick I have seen first hand his dedication and passion for making a difference in the mental health and well being space. Nick is well and truly a thought leader within this field.”
“Nick Bracks is an inspirational young man with a huge commitment to changing children and young people’s lives. He has been involved with our programme, in one form or another, for over 12 months and has consistently impressed our team with his willingness to learn and grow, as well as the value of the contribution he makes. He has a disarming capacity to transparently ‘tell all’ when recounting some of the poor choices he has made in his life and provides very real examples of how to do things differently when speaking to young people. He has brought many people to tears with his capacity to speak into the promise and possibility that lives in every young person. He provides a very real ‘role model’ to young people of how to take responsibility and make choices that create the kind of life that makes a very real difference in the world.”
