Jon Bauer is the author of short stories, and plays for stage and radio. His work has been published in The Daily Telegraph, The Sleepers Almanac and The Bridport Prize, as well as broadcast on national radio. Rocks in the Belly is his first novel.

Greasy spoon chef, marketing manager, copywriter, deer farmer, topless dancer.

What themes are recurring in your work?

Ambivalence, family, jealousy, love, desire, loneliness, death, grief, guilt, blame, hope, relationship.

What have been the highlights of your career?

Getting my Distinguished Talent visa, getting the book published, persistent success in the Bridport Prize, being flown to Vegas to make a film, getting a letter about my book from David Malouf, MJ Hyland, and endorsement by J M Coetzee. The emails from readers who loved the book, one of whom wants a line from it tattooed on her body.

What are you passionate about?

Ambition, self-awareness, overcoming fear, aspiring creatives, endeavour, travel.
