This musical comedy duo has performed on the ABC, the Comedy Channel, Triple J, Triple M, in the Raw Comedy National Final and in sold out shows at the 2008, 2009 and 2010 Melbourne International Comedy Festival. Through songs and storytelling, the boys from Anyone for Tennis? inspire school students at defining points in their lives to always be true to themselves and follow their dreams. This requires determination, vision, goal-setting and a good sense of humour!
Anyone for Tennis? are Andrew (Doody) Doodson and Jason (Jase) English-Rees. If you had told them in high school that they would end up to be comedians, they would have laughed. It wasn’t until meeting at university that they discovered how to make the most of their individual talents, successfully join forces and begin pursuing a dream that they were truly passionate about. Doody’s background is in music and art while Jase’s passion lies in theatre and writing.
Their musical comedy sessions are tailored to school students to motivate them at pivotal points in their education – the transitions from primary school to secondary school and from secondary school into the world beyond.
People say that we’re joined at the hip, but that is completely untrue. We were actually born 3 months apart and hundreds of kilometres apart in Victoria.
We worked together as a creative team in the advertising industry. We spent most of our time working on a large retail client where it was our job to come up with new ways of saying ‘20% off’.
Our major theme is everyday life – taking little insignificant moments that we can all relate to and turning them into something extraordinary to create songs and sketches that are imaginative, unique and memorable.
We were selected for the 2007 Raw Comedy National Final, Australia’s biggest and most prestigious open mic competition. Held at the Melbourne Town Hall and aired on the ABC, we played to an audience bigger than we could imagine – it was great to have so many people see someone else win.
Yes, these corn chips. Come to our place and bring dip.
