Andy Griffiths is one of Australia’s best known and best loved children’s authors. His books have sold over 5 million copies around the world. Andy began as an English teacher and a publisher/editor of educational books and is now the author of over twenty bestselling titles including the JUST! series, the Bum Trilogy, the BAD books, the Schooling Around series, A&T’s Wonderful World of Stupidity and the 13-Storey Treehouse, all illustrated by Terry Denton.

Andy is one of the ambassadors for both The International Year of Reading and The Indigenous Literacy Foundation

What other jobs have you had?

English teacher, taxi driver, singer for a punk rock band.

What themes are recurring in your work?

Robots, time-travel, explosions, bums and marshmallows.

What have been the highlights of your career?

Hooking up with the multi-talented illustrator and madman Terry Denton would be one. Having Just Macbeth! produced and performed by the Bell Shakespeare would be another. But really, every single book has been its own highlight and represents a further exploration into the unchartered wilds of comedy.

What are you passionate about?

Reading, laughter, comedy, music, meditation, exercise and smoothies… in that exact order.

Haven’t I seen you before?

I’ve been touring the schools, libraries and remote communities of Australia for almost twenty years now, so yes, quite probably.

No. There’s nothing left … I put it all in the books!
