Anna Goldsworthy has toured internationally as a concert pianist, and is a founding member of the Seraphim Trio which has performed throughout Australia, Asia and Europe, and is now in the fourth year of its national series.

Anna has won numerous awards for piano performance, and her debut solo piano CD, Come With Us, was released by ABC Classics in 2001. Her two-part radio documentary on the Mendelssohn siblings was broadcast on ABC-FM in 2004.

She has published numerous essays on music and cultural issues, and her writing has appeared in publications such as Best Australian Essays 2007, Best Australian Essays 2008, Best Australian Essays 2009, The Monthly, The Australian, The Australian Book Review and The Australian Literary Review. Her play, Maestro, co-written with her father, Peter Goldsworthy, enjoyed a successful season with the State Theatre of South Australia in March 2009.

Her musical memoir, Piano Lessons, was released by Black Inc in October to critical acclaim and will be released by St Martin’s Press in the USA in October 2010.

Anna has been appointed Artistic Director of the Port Fairy Spring Music Festival, beginning in 2010.

Anna is an engaging speaker and performer, and is passionate about bringing the lessons of classical music to the widest possible audience, incorporating the spoken word into most of her performances as a classical pianist. She is the acclaimed presenter of Musica Viva’s Coffee Concerts, appears regularly on ABC Classic FM, and has vast experience addressing students through her work as piano teacher, lecturer at the University of Melbourne, and Artist-in-residence at Janet Clarke Hall.

"Anna Goldsworthy has been working with Musica Viva Australia as the presenter of our Melbourne Coffee Concerts series since 2002. We asked her to take on this role both because of her background as a leading Australian pianist and because we recognised that she has a natural ability to communicate well with audiences through words and ideas. Anna was a success from the 1st concert she presented and has become an outstanding concert presenter and interviewer over the eight years she has worked with us. Her solid research and ability to quickly engage the performers she interviews is worn lightly, and she brings the audience into the concert experience in a meaningful way. Her success is highlighted by ABC Classic FM’s willingness to feature Anna as the presenter of our series in five direct national radio broadcasts this year; it is very unusual for the station to work with presenters outside their stable. We hope to continue our association with Anna for many years to come."
– Tim Matthies, Director of Artistic Planning, Concerts, Musica Viva Australia

Anna Goldsworthy gave a wonderful multi-media presentation at the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences annual conference in 2008. Anna gave a recital of piano works that she had performed on her recent world tour and after each work she spoke about her experiences on the tour. During the performance, a photographic commentary of the places she had visited was displayed in the background. The entire presentation was engaging and a visual and auditory treat for the audience. Many of the audience were not regular concert goers and were exposed to a range of music that was at once new and exciting. Anna’s discussion ranged from comments on the works and the composers to intimate personal experiences of her travels. I would highly recommend Anna’s presentation for any discerning audience who were looking for entertainment that challenged the intellect and the senses.

Anna Goldsworthy does a brilliant job in the potentially awkward double-role as presenter and live interviewer. The format succeeds in bringing us a step closer to the performers, and adds light to [the concert’s] atmosphere.
– Raymond Yong, pianist & conductor, member of Musica Viva’s Artistic Review Panel

Anna Goldsworthy is pure…gold! Anna’s easy, informing-but-not-patronising style sets just the right tone and supports the audience’s engagement. This is particularly important when the program such as the one today would no doubt have been perceived as challenging by more than a few members of the audience. Anna’s ‘interview’ with the performers also helps to personalise the musicians. Bravo!
